Jake Stoneman CFP, R.F.P.

FINANCIAL PLANNER
MANULIFE SECURITIES INVESTMENT SERVICES INC.
Life Insurance Advisor
Manulife Securities Insurance Inc.

Jake has more than two decades’ experience in providing clients sound counsel with investments, insurance solutions, estate planning, retirement planning, tax planning.

Jake started his career in 1999 as a university student hire at an established financial advisor's office in Kitchener. He graduated from the University of Guelph in 2000 with a Bachelor of Commerce degree, and was immediately hired by the advisor full time. Jake obtained his mutual fund license (2000), life insurance license (2001) and Certified Financial Planner designation (CFP) in 2004.

He spent five rewarding years helping Manulife launch an internal advice service from the ground up. This role included not only delivering financial advice to individuals and families, but also delivering presentations and workshops to groups, large and small. In 2013, Manulife’s Board of Directors honoured Jake as one of a very select few employees worldwide to receive the STARs of Excellence recognition for exemplary performance.

In 2014, Jake was introduced to Murray Child, a prominent Waterloo advisor with plans to bring on a future successor. Murray and Jake recognized a similar style and personality, with both making the financial plan central to all ensuing investment or insurance solutions. Jake joined Opus Wealth Advisors in September 2015.

Jake earned the Registered Financial Planner (R.F.P.) designation bestowed by the Institute of Advanced Financial Planners in 2018. The R.F.P. designation is held by only a few hundred practitioners in Canada and requires a demonstrated ability to produce comprehensive financial plans.

As a separate and stand-alone business, Jake has been preparing and e-filing personal income tax returns for clients since the 1999 tax year. He continues to do taxes primarily because of the synergies with his financial planning work… and clients also appreciate the convenience!

Jake gives back to his community as a long-term member of the volunteer fire department in Waterloo Region, where he lives with his wife, Sarah, and their two young boys.

During my career, I have been introduced to many different scenarios, challenges, and opportunities in my client’s lives. I cherish the opportunity to be a trusted part of the decision making process during life’s critical events and everything in between.

Founder

Murray Child R.F.P. (Retired)

Founder

Murray’s career in financial advice began in 1984 as a founding partner of Associated Financial Planners and subsequently founded MDK/Child Financial Advisors which became Opus Wealth Advisors in 2013.

He was awarded the CFP (Certified Financial Planner) designation in 1998 and the prestigious R.F.P. (Registered Financial Planner) designation from the Institute of Advanced Financial Planning in 2000.

Murray’s approach to financial planning centred on the needs of the client above all else and ensured the client received objective and relevant advice specific to the client’s goals. He was adamant that that approach be continued at Opus after his retirement and was fortunate to be introduced to Jake Stoneman who held the same client centric values.

I could not be more confident that the values and client service emphasis that Opus was founded on will be continued and strengthened by Jake and his team
